What the Loan Application Chatbot Does
The Loan Application template is a short, friendly intake conversation for lenders, brokers, credit unions and fintech sites. Its job is narrow and deliberately so: capture and qualify loan applicants using a simple but engaging conversational flow, then hand a complete, structured enquiry to a human loan officer. It does not underwrite, it does not approve anything, and it does not quote a rate. It asks the handful of questions a loan officer would otherwise ask on a first phone call, and it asks them at whatever hour the applicant happens to be on your site.
The bot introduces itself as MoneyBot and opens with "I'll help you find the right loan." From there the conversation splits into two halves. The first half is mandatory and very short: a name, a requested loan amount band, an email address and a phone number. At that point the bot tells the applicant "Your application is completed!" -- so even someone who drops out immediately afterwards has already left you a contactable, amount-tagged lead. The second half is opt-in. The bot explains that answering a few extra questions will improve their chances, asks permission, and only then collects yearly salary band, housing status and existing debt. That consent step is the design decision that makes this template work: nobody is forced through a financial interrogation to raise their hand.
Who it suits: consumer lenders and personal loan brokers, small business lending desks, credit unions with a web presence, loan comparison sites collecting enquiries on behalf of a panel, and any advisor who currently runs a static "apply now" form that gets abandoned. If you write mortgages specifically, the separate Mortgage Application template asks a very different and much longer set of questions -- property type, down payment, credit band, existing offer -- and is the better starting point for that product line. If you sell into businesses rather than consumers, B2B Lead Qualification is the closer fit. Browse the rest of the lead generation template library if you need a more general enquiry bot.
One honest caveat up front. Lending is regulated, and the wording that is acceptable in one market is not acceptable in another. This template ships with plain conversational copy written to be edited. Nothing here is a compliance product, and Conferbot makes no representation that the default wording satisfies your regulator. Before you publish, have whoever signs off on your disclosures read every message node in the flow -- especially anything the applicant could read as an offer, an eligibility promise or a rate indication. The template collects details so a human can follow up; that is the claim you can safely make on your own site.
The Exact Conversation, Node by Node
Below is the published flow in execution order. Every line in quotation marks is the default text in the template, which you can rewrite in the builder without touching the structure.
Opening
The welcome node says "Hi, I'm MoneyBot!", followed by a message node: "I'll help you find the right loan." A single-choice node then asks "Shall we start?" with one button, Yes. The one-button pattern is not decoration -- it converts a passive page visitor into someone who has taken an action, and it means the transcript starts with an explicit opt-in rather than a bot talking at somebody. Tapping Yes produces a short "Perfect!" and moves on.
The mandatory four
The name node asks "First things first, how should I call you?" and replies with a greeting that reuses the answer ("Nice meeting you, Priya"). The answer is stored as the name variable, so every later message can address the applicant personally.
Next, a single-select node: "Now tell me, how much money would you need?" with four bands -- Less than $500, $500 - $5000, $5000 - $20,000 and +$20,000. Bands rather than a free-text number is the right call for a first touch: applicants who do not know their exact figure still answer, and your routing only ever needs the band.
Then the email node -- "Great! We need your email to continue:" -- with built-in format validation that replies "Please enter a valid email address" on a bad entry, and then the phone node, which stores a phone number. Worth knowing before you publish: in the shipped template the phone node carries the same question text as the email node. It is a copy-paste artefact in the source template, and it is the first thing you should fix -- change it to something like "And the best number to reach you on?" so the applicant is not asked for their email twice.
The bot then confirms: "Your application is completed!"
The consent gate
A message node explains the ask -- "If you want to increase your chances of getting the loan, we'd like to ask you some extra questions." -- and a yes-or-no node puts the decision to the applicant: "Is that OK with you?" with Yes and No.
Choosing No exits gracefully and without friction: "No worries," then "We'll reach out to your email with information about your loan status." then "Have a great day!" You still hold a name, an amount band, an email and a phone number. Choosing Yes gets a "Great!" and continues into the qualification block.
The opt-in qualification block
Three questions, in order. First a single-select: "Please tell us, what's your yearly salary like?" -- Less than $20,000, $20,000 - $60,000, $60,000 - $200,000, +$200,000, stored as the salary variable. Then "And, what's your housing status?" -- Own a house, Renting a house, Living with family, Other (the shipped option text has a typo, "famliy", which you will want to correct on your first pass). Then a yes-or-no node: "And, do you have loans with other banks?" with Yes and No, I don't.
This is the only real branch in the second half. Yes leads to a validated number input -- "And what's your current debt like? (E.g. $10,000)" -- stored as the debt variable, followed by "Perfect, that's all we need!". No, I don't skips the amount question entirely with a simple "Got it!". Both paths rejoin.
Close
The two branches converge on "Our team will reach out to you as soon as possible." and "Thanks again!" and the conversation ends there.
Note what the flow does not contain, because it matters: there is no human handover node, no credit bureau call, no decision logic and no integration node of any kind. Everything the applicant says is captured against the conversation in your Conferbot inbox, and a person picks it up from there. If you want the enquiry pushed somewhere automatically, or a live agent pulled in mid-conversation, those are additions you make -- both are covered below.
What You Get Out of the Box
The table maps each part of the flow to the data it produces and why that ordering was chosen.
| Step | Node type | Captured as | Why it sits here |
|---|---|---|---|
| "Shall we start?" | Single choice | Opt-in action | Turns a page view into a started conversation before any personal data is requested |
| "How should I call you?" | Name input | name | Lets every later message use the applicant's name; lowest-friction first question |
| Amount needed | Single select, 4 bands | Loan amount band | Sizes the enquiry before contact details, so an abandon still tells you the band |
| Email input, validated | Rejects malformed addresses at entry rather than at follow-up | ||
| Phone | Phone input | phone_number | Gives the loan officer a callable channel, not just an inbox |
| "Is that OK with you?" | Yes / No | Consent flag | Makes the financial questions optional, so refusal ends the chat politely instead of abandoning it |
| Yearly salary | Single select, 4 bands | salary | Banded income, the single most useful routing signal |
| Housing status | Single select, 4 options | housing_status | Owner, renter or living with family changes which products apply |
| Loans elsewhere | Yes / No | yes_no_answer | Gates the debt question so people with no debt are not asked for a figure |
| Current debt | Number input | debt | Only asked on the Yes branch; validated as a number |
Because the amount band comes before the contact details and the financial questions come after them, the flow degrades usefully rather than catastrophically. A drop-out at question three leaves you a sized but uncontactable enquiry. A drop-out at the consent gate leaves you a fully contactable lead. Only applicants who volunteer the extra detail cost you extra questions, which is the correct trade for a regulated product that people are cautious about.
Everything runs on Conferbot's no-code drag-and-drop builder, and every conversation lands in the shared inbox with live chat handover available on every plan, including Free.

Plan on an hour for the first pass and a second, shorter pass after your compliance reviewer has read the transcript.
1. Open the template and read every node
Start the Loan Application template from the lead generation library. It opens in the visual builder as a connected graph. Click each node once and read its text top to bottom before changing anything, so you know exactly what an applicant will see.
2. Fix the two shipped defects
Change the phone node's question text (it currently repeats the email question) and correct the "famliy" typo in the housing status options. These take a minute and both are visible to every applicant.
3. Rewrite the copy for your brand and your regulator
Replace MoneyBot with your own assistant name, and rewrite the closing messages so they describe what actually happens next at your firm. "Our team will reach out to you as soon as possible" is a promise your operations team has to keep; if your service level is next business day, say next business day. Remove the emoji if your brand does not use them. Have your compliance reviewer read the full script -- message nodes included -- and adjust anything that could read as an offer or an eligibility assurance.
4. Adjust the bands to your product
The amount and salary bands are generic US-dollar ranges. Set them to your currency and to the thresholds your underwriting actually uses, so the answer maps directly onto a routing rule instead of needing interpretation.
5. Connect a channel
Every channel is available on every plan with no gating. Most lenders start with the website widget on the product and pricing pages. Add WhatsApp if your applicants already message you there.
6. Test both branches, then publish
Run the flow four times: consent Yes with existing debt, consent Yes without, consent No, and a deliberate abandon after the phone number. Check that each ends cleanly and that the transcript in your inbox contains what you expect. Then publish. Pricing starts at Free with 600 conversations a month and one chatbot, which is enough to validate the flow on real traffic before you commit.
Customisation Ideas That Actually Pay Off
Export the answers automatically
Out of the box the flow has no integration node, so enquiries live in the Conferbot inbox. Add a Google Sheets node after the closing message to append one row per applicant -- name, amount band, email, phone, salary, housing, debt -- and your loan officers get a working queue with no copy-paste. A Gmail node on the same spot emails the enquiry to a shared mailbox the moment it completes. If you run HubSpot or Zoho CRM, push the lead straight into the pipeline instead. Webhooks and API access require Starter or above; Sheets and Gmail do not.
Route by amount and salary
Add a condition node after the salary question that reads the amount band and the salary band together. High-band enquiries can drop into a different closing message and a different Sheets tab or CRM owner; small-ticket enquiries can be handled by a junior desk. The branch costs the applicant nothing -- they never see it.
Add a real human handover
The template promises a callback but has no handover node. If you staff a lending desk during business hours, insert a human handover node on the high-value branch so a qualified applicant can talk to someone immediately rather than waiting for the callback. Set the priority and tags on the node so the conversation surfaces at the top of the inbox.
Ask the loan purpose
The flow captures how much but never why. A single-select node after the amount band -- debt consolidation, home improvement, vehicle, medical, business, other -- is one extra tap and usually the most useful field a loan officer can have going into the call.
Make the consent gate do more work
Right now a "No" ends the conversation. Consider offering something on that branch instead: a link to your eligibility criteria, or a question about a better time to call. The applicant has already given you their contact details, so the branch is worth more than a goodbye.
Let people book the call themselves
Adding a calendar booking node before the close lets the applicant pick a callback slot. It removes the phone tag that follows most web enquiries and it means the applicant chose the time, which tends to mean they answer.

Where to Run It
All ten channels are included on every plan, so the question is where your applicants already are rather than what you are allowed to use.
The website widget is the natural home. Put it on the loan product pages, the rates page and the calculator page, not just the homepage -- those are the pages where somebody is actively working out whether to apply, and where a short intake conversation catches them at the moment of intent. On mobile in particular, a four-question chat is a very different proposition from a multi-field application form.
WhatsApp matters for lenders in markets where it is the default messaging channel. A loan enquiry started there arrives with a verified phone number attached, and the whole thread stays in one place for the follow-up conversation -- useful when the loan officer needs to ask for a document later. Facebook Messenger and Instagram are worth connecting if you run paid social for loan products; a click-to-message ad can drop somebody straight into this flow rather than onto a landing page.
Telegram suits fintech audiences in particular regions. Slack and Microsoft Teams are less about applicants and more about your own staff -- an internal deployment where branch employees log walk-in enquiries through the same flow keeps the data in one shape. The mobile SDK covers the case where your lending app should collect the enquiry in-app.
Whichever channels you run, the conversations all land in one unified inbox, so a loan officer does not need to watch five places. If you want to compare how the same enquiry performs on different channels, the analytics dashboard reports completion by channel; A/B testing of alternative wording needs the Pro plan.
If your enquiries skew commercial rather than consumer, look at the B2B lead qualification bot, which is built around company, role and budget rather than salary and housing. In 2026 most lenders end up running two or three of these side by side, one per product line, which is straightforward on any paid plan.
