Discord error 220004: Webhook services cannot be used in forum channels
Last verified against Discord Developer Docs - Opcodes and status codes
Webhook services cannot be used in forum channelsWhat error 220004 means
You sent a request to one of Discord's service-compatible webhook endpoints, such as the GitHub-compatible /webhooks/{id}/{token}/github or Slack-compatible /webhooks/{id}/{token}/slack routes, for a webhook in a forum channel. Those compatibility endpoints do not support forum channels.
They translate another service's payload into a Discord message, but have no way to supply the thread information forum channels need. So a GitHub repository webhook pointed at a forum channel's webhook URL fails with 220004 on every event.
Use a text channel for these integrations, or put a small relay in between that receives the service payload and calls the standard execute endpoint with thread_name or thread_id (see 220001).
Creating the webhook in a text channel and pointing the service there is the quickest fix; nothing else in the service's configuration needs to change.
What it looks like
{
"message": "Webhook services cannot be used in forum channels",
"code": 220004
}Why it happens
- GitHub webhook configured with a forum channel's Discord webhook URL plus /github
- Slack-format integration targeting a forum channel's webhook
- Destination channel converted to a forum after the integration was set up
- Webhook moved to a forum channel through the channel picker in Integrations
How to fix Discord error 220004
- 1Check the webhook's channel type in Channel Settings > Integrations
- 2Create the webhook in a regular text channel and update the service's URL
- 3Or run a relay that converts payloads and calls the standard execute endpoint with thread fields
- 4Send a test event and confirm delivery
How to stop it recurring
Point service-compatible webhooks only at text channels. If you want discussions per event in a forum, use a relay you control so you can set post names and tags. The webhook debugging guide covers testing deliveries end to end. Label such webhooks clearly.

No. Retrying the same request produces the same error; the condition has to be fixed first. Treat it as a permanent failure for that message and surface it, rather than looping.
