LINE error 404: no default richmenu
Last verified against LINE Developers - Messaging API reference (error responses)
no default richmenuWhat error 404 means
The get default rich menu ID endpoint (GET /v2/bot/user/all/richmenu) found nothing to return. The documented 404 row is simply "The default rich menu isn't set." The endpoint only reports the default rich menu set with the Messaging API; it doesn't look at per-user links.
This is a state, not a fault. Common reasons are a channel that has never set a default through the API, a default that was cleared with DELETE /v2/bot/user/all/richmenu, or a default whose rich menu was deleted. Users may still see a rich menu even when this endpoint returns 404: a per-user rich menu linked through the API, or a default configured in LINE Official Account Manager (which this endpoint reports as owned by another channel instead).
If your code reads the default menu to decide what to do next - for example to diff it against the menu it is about to deploy - treat 404 as "none set" and continue, rather than as an exception.
What it looks like
// If the default rich menu isn't set (404 Not Found)
{
"message": "no default richmenu",
"details": []
}Why it happens
- No default rich menu was ever set with the Messaging API on this channel.
- The default was cleared with the clear default rich menu endpoint.
- The rich menu that was the default has been deleted.
- You are calling with a token from a different channel than the one where the default was set.
How to fix LINE error 404
- 1If you expect a default, set one with POST /v2/bot/user/all/richmenu/{richMenuId} after the menu has an image.
- 2Check that the channel access token belongs to the channel you configured.
- 3List rich menus with GET /v2/bot/richmenu/list to see which menus exist.
- 4In deployment scripts, treat 404 here as an empty state rather than an error.
How to stop it recurring
Make setting the default rich menu an explicit, idempotent deploy step, and never delete a rich menu that is still the default without first setting its replacement. Monitoring that calls this endpoint daily catches the case where someone clears the default by accident and users fall back to a Manager menu or none at all.

What does LINE error 404 mean?
The get default rich menu ID endpoint ( GET /v2/bot/user/all/richmenu ) found nothing to return. The documented 404 row is simply "The default rich menu isn't set." The endpoint only reports the default rich menu set with the Messaging API; it doesn't look at per-user links. This is a state, not a fault.
How do I fix LINE error 404?
1. If you expect a default, set one with POST /v2/bot/user/all/richmenu/{richMenuId} after the menu has an image. 2. Check that the channel access token belongs to the channel you configured. 3. List rich menus with GET /v2/bot/richmenu/list to see which menus exist. 4. In deployment scripts, treat 404 here as an empty state rather than an error.
Should I retry after error 404?
No. Retrying the same request produces the same error; the condition has to be fixed first. Treat it as a permanent failure for that message and surface it, rather than looping.
Stop debugging LINE by hand
Connect the channel through Conferbot: tokens, webhooks and retries are handled, failures show as readable status.
