New member applications to staff
A website or Telegram bot collects an application for your community or guild, then posts it to a private staff channel with the answers so moderators can approve it.
The Discord step posts a message into a channel on your Discord server, or sends a member a direct message, when something happens in a conversation. The visitor can be on your website, WhatsApp, Telegram or anywhere else; the alert lands in Discord, where your team or moderators already are.
Build on the Free plan. The Discord step runs on Pro ($39/month) and above.
Plenty of teams run on Discord: game studios, creator communities, crypto projects, developer tools and small companies that never moved to Slack. The Discord step lets a chatbot on any channel report into that server: a staff channel gets new applications, a moderators' channel gets reports, a founder gets a DM when a big order comes in.
This page is about sending alerts from a chatbot into Discord. If you want a bot that members talk to inside your server, for FAQs, support or onboarding, that is the Discord channel: see the Discord bot maker page. For one-way posts from other systems without a bot, the Discord webhooks guide covers the webhook route.
Choose a server the bot is in, pick the channel and write the message with chat variables, for example New application from ${name}: ${reason}.
Send a direct message to one member by their Discord user ID, such as a moderator on duty or the person who owns orders. Store IDs in variables to route to different people.
Messages use Discord's markdown: **bold**, *italic*, `code`, and mentions such as <@user_id> or <@&role_id> to ping a person or role. Build fancier text with our colored text generator.
Two read operations return the server's channels or members into a variable, up to a maximum you set, so a flow can look up who or where to notify.
The step runs inside the flow, so the alert fires whether the visitor wrote on your website, WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, a mobile app or Discord itself.
If Discord is slow or refuses the message, the conversation continues. The step waits at most 10 seconds, retries once when Discord asks for a short pause, and leaves the Save result variable empty on failure.
| Operation | Fields |
|---|---|
| Channel | Connected bot, server (guild), channel, message text with ${variables}. |
| DM | Connected bot, recipient's Discord user ID (or a variable that holds it), message text. |
| Channels | Connected bot, server, maximum results. Returns the server's channels. |
| Members | Connected bot, server, maximum results. Returns members with their usernames. Needs the Server Members intent. |
| All operations | Optional Save result variable. A sent message returns its message ID and channel ID. |
About ten minutes, most of it in Discord's Developer Portal. You need a Pro or higher Conferbot workspace and Manage Server permission on the Discord server.
In the Discord Developer Portal, create an application, open Bot and copy the token. Our guide on getting a Discord bot token walks through it. Treat the token like a password.
Generate an invite link with the bot scope and at least View Channels and Send Messages. The permissions calculator builds the link, and the invite link guide explains each part.
Drag the Discord step into the flow, choose Connect Discord Bot and paste the token. Conferbot checks it with Discord before saving it, encrypted.
The server menu lists every server the bot has joined. Pick one, then the channel the alerts belong in.
Type $ to insert variables. Mention a role, such as <@&123456789012345678>, if the alert needs someone to act quickly.
Preview the bot, walk to the alert and check it arrives. If it does not, the table below covers the usual causes.
A website or Telegram bot collects an application for your community or guild, then posts it to a private staff channel with the answers so moderators can approve it.
When a member reports a problem or asks for a human, post the report to #mod-queue and mention the moderator role, alongside the normal live chat handover.
A store chatbot that takes an order or a quote request DMs the founder or posts to #orders, so a small team without a CRM still sees every sale.
Collect sign-ups for a tournament, stream or meetup in a chatbot and post each one to an events channel, then use the Channels list operation to check where announcements should go.
The step posts as the bot whose token you pasted, so messages show that bot's name and avatar. The bot can only post where Discord's permissions let it: View Channel and Send Messages in the target channel.
The Members list operation uses Discord's member list, which requires the Server Members privileged intent. Turn it on under Bot in the Developer Portal. Posting messages does not need it.
The bot token is checked with Discord when you connect and stored encrypted. If it leaks, reset it in the Developer Portal and paste the new one; the old token stops working immediately.
Remove the bot connection from the step, or kick the bot from the server. Discord steps that used it stop posting; conversations keep working.
Discord rejects messages over 2,000 characters, so Conferbot cuts longer text and ends it with an ellipsis rather than failing. Keep alerts short. See error 50035.
A member can block DMs from server members or not share a server with the bot. Discord then refuses the message with error 50007; post to a channel instead for anything critical.
Discord limits how fast a bot can post. When Discord asks for a short wait, Conferbot waits and retries once; otherwise the step gives up and the flow continues. See Discord limits and HTTP 429.
DMs use numeric user IDs. Turn on Developer Mode in Discord's settings to copy a user's, channel's or role's ID. Our account age checker also reads any ID.
| What you see | Why, and the fix |
|---|---|
| Missing Access (50001) | The bot cannot see the channel. Give its role View Channel on that channel. See error 50001. |
| Missing Permissions (50013) | The bot can see the channel but not post. Give its role Send Messages there. See error 50013. |
| Unknown Channel (10003) | The channel was deleted or the bot left the server. Pick the channel again in the step. See error 10003. |
| The server is not in the menu | The bot has not joined that server. Invite it with an invite link, then refresh the server list in the step. |
| Members list is empty or fails | Turn on the Server Members intent under Bot in the Developer Portal. |
| Connecting the token fails | The token was reset or copied with a space. Reset it in the Developer Portal and paste the new one. |
No. The Discord step sends alerts from any chatbot into Discord. A bot that members talk to inside your server is the Discord channel. You can use both.
Yes. The step posts as a bot you create in the Discord Developer Portal and invite to your server. You paste its token into the step once.
The Discord step is a native integration, included on Pro and above. Connecting Discord as a channel, so members can chat with your bot, is available on every plan.
Yes. The step runs in the flow, so it fires the same way from the website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, a mobile app or Discord.
Yes. Write the role mention in the message, for example <@&123456789012345678>. Discord's own rules about which roles can be mentioned still apply.
View Channel and Send Messages in the channel you post to. Listing members also needs the Server Members privileged intent turned on in the Developer Portal.
Discord does not accept them, so Conferbot cuts the text to the limit and ends it with an ellipsis instead of failing the step.
Usually the member does not allow DMs from server members, or no longer shares a server with the bot. Discord refuses those messages with error 50007.
For one-way posts from other systems, a Discord webhook needs no bot at all; our webhooks guide explains it. The Discord step is for alerts from inside a chatbot flow, with DMs and look-ups a webhook cannot do.
Start free with Conferbot - the free plan includes 600 conversations a month and needs no credit card, so you can build the flow today. The Discord step switches on with Pro.
