Discord statistics at a glance
24 Discord statistics, each linked to Discord's own pages or developer documentation. Discord is privately held and publishes selected figures on its company page, press releases and blog; we only use those, plus the developer rules that every bot has to live with.
| Statistic | What it says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 90 million+ | daily active users | Discord, Q4 2025 data |
| 200 million+ | monthly active users | Discord, Mar 2025 |
| 25%+ | of monthly users use apps built on Discord | Discord, Sep 2024 |
| 10,000+ | game communities with 80 million+ members | Discord, Mar 2026 |
| 100 servers | cap for an unverified bot | Discord docs |
| 10,000 users | threshold for privileged intent review | Discord change log, Jun 2026 |
Two things to take from this. Discord's audience is large and deeply engaged, with most users playing games and many starting a game within an hour of opening the app. And bots are a normal part of the experience: more than a quarter of monthly users use apps built on Discord. That combination makes Discord the natural channel for communities, support for games and software products, and any brand whose audience already gathers there.
For how these numbers translate into running support on the platform, see the guides to a support bot for gaming servers and a support bot for crypto communities.
Discord user statistics
| Statistic | What it measures | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 90 million+ | Daily active Discord users (Discord internal data, Q4 2025) | Discord company page, Q4 2025 data |
| 200 million+ | Monthly active Discord users (March 2025) | Discord press release, Mar 2025 |
| 90%+ | Discord users who play video games (2025 user survey) | Discord company page, Q4 2025 data |
| ~40% | PC players who start a game within an hour of opening Discord (2025 average) | Discord company page, Q4 2025 data |
| 1.5 billion+ hours | Time Discord's monthly users spend playing games each month, across 8,000+ titles on PC | Discord blog, Mar 2025 |
Discord's official numbers are a 90 million plus daily figure, based on its internal data for Q4 2025, and a 200 million plus monthly figure used in its March 2025 press releases. Many sites quote other numbers, including registered user counts and server totals, but we could not trace them to Discord, so they are not here.
Gaming is still the core: Discord's 2025 user survey says over 90% of users play video games, and its March 2025 Quests post said monthly users spend more than 1.5 billion hours a month playing over 8,000 titles on PC. Communities beyond gaming, from software products to education and creators, are growing on top of that. Our Discord community management guide covers how they run.
Apps, bots and the Discord ecosystem
| Statistic | What it measures | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 25%+ | Monthly active users who use apps built on Discord | Discord developer blog, Sep 2024 |
| 10,000+ | Game communities on Discord with more than 80 million members (as of Dec 31, 2025) | Discord press release, Mar 2026 |
| 96% | Median ad completion rate for Discord Quests (Discord internal data, Dec 2025) | Discord press release, Mar 2026 |
More than a quarter of monthly users use apps, according to Discord's September 2024 developer post that opened Activities to all developers. For a business, that means a bot answering questions in a server is expected rather than novel. The work is in doing it well: the no-code Discord bot builder covers setup, the Message Content intent explains the permission most support bots need, and the invite link guide gets the bot into a server with the right permissions.
Discord developer limits every bot runs into
| Limit | What it covers | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 100 servers | Server cap for an unverified bot; verification is required to grow past it | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 10,000 users | Unique-user threshold that triggers privileged intent review, renewed annually (since June 10, 2026) | Discord developer change log, Jun 2026 |
| GUILD_MEMBERS, GUILD_PRESENCES, MESSAGE_CONTENT | The three privileged gateway intents | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 2,000 characters | Message length for bots | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 10 | Embeds per message | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 6,000 characters across all embeds | Combined text across all embeds in one message | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 50 requests per second, per bot | REST global rate limit | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 10,000 invalid requests per 10 minutes | Invalid requests allowed before a temporary IP restriction | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 120 events per connection per 60 seconds | Gateway events a connection may send | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 2,500 guilds maximum per shard | Servers per gateway shard | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 3 seconds | Time to acknowledge a slash command or button | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 15 minutes | How long follow-ups can use an interaction token | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 100 per application | Global slash commands per app | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 5 | Buttons per action row (5 rows per message) | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 15 | Webhooks per channel | Discord developer docs, checked Aug 2026 |
| 20 MiB | Default attachment upload limit for bots after the Sept 3, 2026 increase | Discord developer change log, Sep 2026 |
Two rules decide how far a bot can grow. An unverified bot is capped at 100 servers; verification lifts that. Separately, since June 10, 2026, a bot that reaches more than 10,000 unique users must pass privileged intent review, renewed every year, to keep using Message Content, Server Members or Presence. Our Discord bot not responding guide covers both growth walls.
The rest are day-to-day limits: 2,000 characters per message, 50 REST requests per second, and a three-second deadline to acknowledge any slash command or button, which is the cause of The application did not respond. Every limit with its documentation link is in our Discord limits reference, and the Discord error directory explains codes such as 50013 Missing Permissions and 50001 Missing Access.
Free Discord tools
We built free tools for the jobs Discord bot owners do most: the embed builder for rich messages within the 6,000-character embed limit, the permissions calculator for invite links, the timestamp generator for dates that show in each reader's time zone, the colored text generator and the account age checker. For webhooks, our Discord webhooks guide covers sending alerts without a bot at all.
What businesses use Discord for
The audience data points to a few clear uses: player and customer support inside the community server, onboarding new members, answering the same product questions at any hour, and gathering feedback directly from players and users. Discord's own figure of 10,000 game communities with 80 million members shows how many studios run official servers. Our Discord bot templates cover FAQ, onboarding and support flows, and how to get a Discord bot token is step one.
For comparison with other community channels, see our Telegram statistics, and for the broader picture of bots in customer service, AI customer service statistics.
Discord platform changes that affect bots
- September 2024: Discord opens Activities to all developers and says apps are used by over 25% of monthly users.
- March 2025: Discord reports 200 million+ monthly users and launches its Social SDK for games.
- February 23, 2026: Pin Messages becomes its own permission.
- June 10, 2026: Privileged intent review moves to a 10,000 unique user threshold, renewed annually and separate from verification.
- September 3, 2026: The default upload limit rises to 20 MiB.
- November 16, 2026: Channel obfuscation becomes mandatory, per the change log.
Dates for platform changes come from the Discord developer change log. If a bot stops working after one of them, start with Discord bot not responding.
Discord terms used here
| Metric | What it means and how to read it |
|---|---|
| Rate limiting | Discord's per-route buckets and 50 requests per second global limit, reported in X-RateLimit headers. |
| Webhook | A URL that posts messages into a channel without a bot. Up to 15 per channel. |
| Chatbot | A Discord bot that reads messages or slash commands and replies. |
| Human handoff | Moving a support thread from the bot to a moderator or support agent. |
| Chat channel | Discord's text channels and threads, where most support bots reply. |
| Ban | Removing a user from a server. Bots need the Ban Members permission and correct role order to do it. |
Planning a bot for growth on Discord
| Milestone | What happens | Prepare by |
|---|---|---|
| Any server | Bot needs the right intents and channel permissions | Use the invite link guide and permissions calculator |
| 100 servers | Unverified bots cannot join more | Apply for verification before you hit the cap |
| 2,500 servers per shard | One gateway connection can no longer hold them all | Enable sharding in your library |
| 10,000 users | Privileged intent review, renewed annually | Document why you need Message Content and apply within the 90-day window |
A hosted bot handles the gateway, sharding and rate limits for you; see the no-code Discord bot builder for that route.
Widely quoted numbers we left out, and why
Discord statistics pages disagree wildly. We could not trace any of these to Discord:
| Figure you may see elsewhere | Why it is not in our table |
|---|---|
| 259 million, 350 million or 430 million monthly users | Third-party estimates; Discord's own figure is 200 million+. |
| 656 million registered users, 32.6 million active servers | No Discord source found. |
| $561 million or $725 million in revenue, attributed to an IPO filing | Discord was reported to have filed confidentially for an IPO in January 2026; confidential filings are not public, so no audited revenue has been published. |
| 26.5 million daily active users | Contradicts Discord's own 90 million+ daily figure. |
For real usage data about your own server, Discord's Server Insights and your bot's analytics are more useful than any of these totals; see chatbot analytics.
Discord compared with Telegram for community bots
| Discord | Telegram | |

| Message length | 2,000 characters (embeds up to 6,000) | 4,096 characters |
| Interaction deadline | 3 seconds to acknowledge | No equivalent; answer callback queries |
| Best fit | Gaming, software and creator communities | Broadcast channels, support chats and mini apps |

How we sourced these Discord statistics
Audience and ecosystem figures come only from discord.com: the company page, press releases and blog posts, each dated. Developer limits come from Discord's developer documentation and change log; the change log entries for the 10,000-user review threshold (June 10, 2026) and the upload limit increase (September 3, 2026) are cited directly. We excluded user, server and revenue numbers that circulate on statistics sites without a Discord source, and reports about a possible IPO, since no public filing exists.
