ManyChat vs WATI (2026)
ManyChat is built for Instagram and Messenger growth funnels and bills per contact. WATI is built for running WhatsApp as a team sales and support channel and bills per plan with users, automation triggers and AI credits metered. Pick by channel first: Instagram-led audience growth points to ManyChat, a WhatsApp inbox with several agents points to WATI.
Prices and product status verified 3 November 2026. We build a competing product (Conferbot) - where it appears below, it is labeled.
ManyChat and WATI show up on the same shortlist because both promise "chat automation for messaging apps", but they grew up on different channels and it shows in every part of the product. ManyChat started on Facebook Messenger, became the default tool for Instagram comment-to-DM funnels, and added WhatsApp later. WATI started as a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider and built a shared team inbox, broadcasts and an AI agent around that one channel, with Instagram and others added on top.
That origin decides most of what follows: how each one prices, what its automation builder is good at, and which team it fits. This page compares them on the facts each vendor publishes, explains where each one stops being the right tool, and labels the one place we mention our own product.

Two pricing models that reward different businesses
ManyChat charges by contact. A contact is anyone who has interacted with your bot, and they keep counting whether or not they message again. On our August 2026 check, Essential started around $14/month for 250 contacts, Pro was around $29/month for 2,500, Business around $69/month for 7,500 and Advanced around $139/month for 25,000, with per-contact overage above each band. ManyChat rebuilt its pricing on 2 March 2026 and ran the old and new models in parallel afterwards, so two accounts on the same plan name can be billed differently. Its pricing page blocked our automated check on 3 November 2026, so confirm the current numbers there before you budget.
WATI charges by plan. On 3 November 2026 the pricing page listed Growth at ₹2,699/month, Pro at ₹5,799/month and Business at ₹16,799/month, billed quarterly, with a Monthly/Quarterly/Annual toggle. Each plan bundles users (3 on Growth, 5 on Pro and Business with extra users at ₹1,299 or ₹2,199 per month), a monthly allowance of automation triggers (1,000, 2,000 and 5,000) and Wati AI credits (2,000, 5,000 and 20,000). Add-ons cover extra triggers (₹1,000 per 1,000), extra AI credits (₹1,600 per 2,000) and extra WhatsApp numbers (₹2,499 per number per month).
The shapes reward different growth. ManyChat's bill grows with audience size, which is fine when every new contact is a lead you want to re-engage. WATI's bill grows with team size and automation volume, which is fine when the channel is staffed by agents who answer customers all day.
Channel depth: where each one is genuinely strong
ManyChat on Instagram and Messenger
ManyChat's reputation comes from Instagram: keyword triggers on comments, story replies and DMs, growth tools that turn a reel into a list of people who asked for something. If your plan is "post, ask people to comment a word, send them the link in DMs", ManyChat is the tool most tutorials, agencies and templates assume you use. Messenger came first historically and is still well supported.
WATI on WhatsApp
WATI's strength is operating WhatsApp as a business channel: a shared team inbox where conversations are assigned to agents, template messages and broadcasts, contact management, and integrations listed on its pricing page for Shopify (a $4.99/month add-on), HubSpot on Pro and Salesforce on Business. WhatsApp-first teams in India, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Latin America are its core market, which is why its prices are published in INR.
The cross-over
Both now touch the other's home channel, but neither is as deep there as on its own. If you need serious Instagram automation and a serious WhatsApp team inbox, you are choosing which one to compromise on, or running two tools.
The bill in three realistic situations
These use the published figures above. ManyChat numbers are from our August 2026 check; WATI numbers are INR from the 3 November 2026 pricing page. Meta's WhatsApp message fees are extra on both and are not included.
A creator with 2,000 Instagram contacts, one person running it
ManyChat Pro at around $29/month covers 2,500 contacts. WATI is the wrong tool here: its value is the WhatsApp team inbox, and you would pay for users and broadcasts you do not need. ManyChat wins clearly.
A store with 3 agents answering WhatsApp all day
WATI Growth at ₹2,699/month includes 3 users and 1,000 automation triggers. ManyChat can run WhatsApp, but its contact-based bill counts every customer who ever messaged, and a store collects contacts fast. WATI fits the workload better.
A growing team: 8 agents on WhatsApp, AI answering first
WATI Pro includes 5 users, so 3 extra users at ₹1,299 each add ₹3,897/month on top of ₹5,799, plus AI credit add-ons if 5,000 credits run out. ManyChat is priced on contacts rather than seats, so its bill depends on audience size, not on the 8 agents. Run both against a real month of volume before deciding; the answer changes with how many unique customers you see.
Feature by feature
| Capability | ManyChat | WATI |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram comment and DM automation | Core strength | Supported, secondary |
| WhatsApp team inbox | Available, lighter | Core strength, with agent assignment |
| Broadcasts and templates | Yes | Yes; broadcasts at standard rates on Growth, unlimited on Pro and Business |
| AI answering | On paid tiers | Wati AI credits and Astra AI agents per plan |
| Automation builder | Visual flow builder, many templates | Flows with monthly automation triggers metered |
| CRM integrations | Through apps and Zapier | 2 select on Growth, 5 incl. HubSpot on Pro, unlimited incl. Salesforce on Business |
| API | Available on paid plans | 10k calls (no webhooks) on Growth up to 20M on Business |
| Pricing currency on site | USD | INR |
How the AI is sold
Both vendors now lead with AI, and both ration it. WATI is explicit: each plan includes a number of Wati AI credits (2,000 on Growth, 5,000 on Pro, 20,000 on Business) that are shared by Wati and its Astra AI agent, and more credits are an add-on at ₹1,600 per 2,000. Plan the AI budget as a meter, not a feature.
ManyChat's AI packaging has been reported differently by different sources since the March 2026 pricing change, and its own pages have described AI both as included from Pro and as an add-on to Pro. Ask on the sales call exactly which AI features your plan includes and what happens when you go over.
The useful question for either vendor is not "do you have AI" but "what does the AI do when it does not know the answer". A bot that guesses on a WhatsApp order question creates a support ticket and an angry customer; a bot that hands over to a person cleanly does not. Our guide to AI chatbots giving wrong answers covers how to test this before you buy.
Moving between them
ManyChat to WATI
Usually triggered when WhatsApp becomes the main customer channel and agents need a proper inbox. Export contacts, rebuild flows (there is no import between the two builders), and re-approve your WhatsApp templates if you are moving the number to a new provider. Our WhatsApp template examples cover what Meta approves on the first try.
WATI to ManyChat
Usually triggered by an Instagram growth push. Keep WATI if WhatsApp is still staffed; ManyChat is not a replacement for a busy WhatsApp team inbox.
Moving the WhatsApp number
Whichever way you go, the number migration is the risky part. A number can only be connected to one provider at a time, display-name approval and quality rating travel with the business account, and mistakes show up as registration errors. Read WhatsApp number registration failed and WhatsApp Business account restricted before you start.
Where Conferbot fits (our product, labeled)
Conferbot is a no-code chatbot builder that runs one bot across a website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, Discord, Slack and Microsoft Teams. Every channel is on every plan, including Free with 600 conversations a month. It bills per conversation, not per contact or per seat bundle: $19, $39 and $59 a month for 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 conversations.
It is a fit when you want the same AI answers and flows on WhatsApp and your website, with live chat handover to a person on every plan. It is not an Instagram growth tool: Conferbot's Instagram channel is still marked coming soon in the dashboard, so for comment-to-DM funnels ManyChat remains the specialist. Native integrations such as HubSpot and Google Sheets need the Pro plan.
Decision guide by situation
| Your situation | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Creator or brand growing on Instagram | ManyChat | Comment and DM triggers are its core |
| WhatsApp sales team of 3 to 10 agents | WATI | Shared inbox, assignment, broadcasts |
| Large audience, low support volume | WATI or a per-conversation tool | Contact-based pricing charges for the whole audience |
| One bot on WhatsApp and the website | Consider a multi-channel builder | Both are channel specialists; see website chatbot |
| Budget in INR, India-based team | WATI | Local pricing and a large local customer base |
Questions to ask each vendor
For ManyChat
- "Which pricing model is my account on, the pre or post 2 March 2026 one?"
- "How is a contact counted across Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, and do inactive contacts still bill?"
- "Exactly which AI features does my plan include, and what is metered?"
For WATI
- "What happens when we use the last automation trigger or AI credit in a month?"
- "Show the WhatsApp rate card for our top three customer countries."
- "What is the price in USD if we are billed outside India?"
How this comparison was verified
WATI's plans, users, triggers, AI credits and add-on prices were read from wati.io/pricing on 3 November 2026. ManyChat's pricing page returned an access error to our automated check that day, so ManyChat figures are from our 6 August 2026 review and are marked approximate. We did not run either product in production for this page; it compares what each vendor publishes. Meta's WhatsApp fees change by country and category and are not included in any bill above. Corrections are welcome via contact. Disclosure: Conferbot is our product, and the one section that discusses it says so.
Frequently asked questions
Is ManyChat or WATI better for WhatsApp?
WATI. It was built as a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider, and its shared team inbox, agent assignment, broadcasts and template handling are its core product. ManyChat supports WhatsApp but is strongest on Instagram and Messenger.
Is ManyChat or WATI better for Instagram?
ManyChat. Instagram comment-to-DM, story reply and keyword automation is what it is best known for, and most Instagram automation tutorials and templates assume it. WATI supports Instagram as a secondary channel.
How much does WATI cost in 2026?
On 3 November 2026 WATI's pricing page listed Growth at ₹2,699/month, Pro at ₹5,799/month and Business at ₹16,799/month, billed quarterly. Each includes users, automation triggers and Wati AI credits, with add-ons for more. Meta's WhatsApp message fees are charged on top by country and category.
How does ManyChat pricing work?
ManyChat bills per contact: everyone who has interacted with your bot counts, whether or not they message again. On our August 2026 check, plans ran from around $14/month for 250 contacts to around $139/month for 25,000. Its pricing changed on 2 March 2026, so confirm current figures on its pricing page.
Does WATI include AI?
Yes, as a metered allowance. Growth includes 2,000 Wati AI credits and 1 Astra AI agent, Pro 5,000 credits and 2 agents, Business 20,000 credits and unlimited agents. Extra credits are an add-on at ₹1,600 per 2,000.
Can I use ManyChat and WATI together?
Yes, and some brands do: ManyChat for Instagram growth funnels, WATI for the WhatsApp support and sales inbox. The cost is two tools, two contact lists and flows rebuilt twice. A single multi-channel builder avoids that if neither channel needs a specialist's depth.
Does WATI have a free plan?
WATI's pricing page offers a 7-day free trial with no setup fee rather than a permanent free plan. ManyChat has a free plan limited to 25 contacts.
Which is cheaper for a small business?
It depends on the shape of the business. A one-person Instagram brand with a few thousand contacts usually pays less on ManyChat. A WhatsApp team with 3 agents gets more for the money on WATI Growth. Businesses with large audiences but modest support volume pay least on per-conversation pricing.
Do ManyChat or WATI add a markup on WhatsApp messages?
WATI's page says per-message charges vary by category and country and links a rate card per plan; it does not describe a markup. Meta's fees apply on both platforms. Ask each vendor for the exact per-message price in your customers' countries before comparing.
What are the main alternatives to ManyChat and WATI?
For Instagram, Chatfuel and BotPenguin are common alternatives. For WhatsApp, Interakt, AiSensy and Gupshup-based tools. For one bot across WhatsApp, a website and other channels with per-conversation pricing, multi-channel builders such as Conferbot fit.
How hard is it to move a WhatsApp number from one tool to another?
The number can be connected to only one provider at a time, so you disconnect it from the old one and register it with the new one. Templates may need re-approval and mistakes surface as registration errors. Plan a quiet window and keep agents briefed.
Is there an option that charges per conversation instead of per contact?
Yes. Conferbot bills per conversation: Free includes 600 a month, and paid plans are $19, $39 and $59 for 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000, with every channel on every plan. Its Instagram channel is still coming soon in the dashboard, so it suits WhatsApp and website-led teams rather than Instagram funnels.
