Why teams look for a WATI alternative
WATI is a solid official WhatsApp Business API platform. Teams usually start looking elsewhere for one of four reasons: per-user pricing as the team grows, metered automation triggers and AI credits, the need for channels beyond WhatsApp, or a budget that is set in dollars rather than rupees.
On 3 November 2026 WATI's pricing page listed Growth at ₹2,699 a month, Pro at ₹5,799 and Business at ₹16,799, billed quarterly. Growth includes 3 users and no extras; Pro and Business include 5, with extra users at ₹1,299 and ₹2,199 a month. Each plan includes a monthly allowance of automation triggers (1,000, 2,000, 5,000) and Wati AI credits (2,000, 5,000, 20,000), with add-ons for more. WhatsApp message fees are charged on top by category and country.
None of that is unreasonable. But it means a 10-person support team on Pro pays for 5 extra users, a busy chatbot runs through triggers, and AI answering is budgeted as a meter. The alternatives below each solve one of those pressures, and each comes with its own trade-off.
What to keep in mind before you switch
- Your WhatsApp number and business account belong to you, not to WATI. Any official API provider can connect them, one provider at a time.
- Approved templates are tied to your WhatsApp Business account, but check their status after the move.
- Flows do not export between builders. Plan to rebuild them, and use the move to simplify them.

The alternatives in detail
1. Interakt
Interakt is an Indian official WhatsApp API platform from the Jio Haptik group with a shared inbox, broadcasts, catalogue, a basic chatbot and its own sales CRM. It is WATI's most direct competitor.
Pricing (3 November 2026 unless noted): Starter (Instagram only) ₹999 a month; Growth ₹2,799; Advanced ₹3,799, plus taxes; Enterprise on request. Unlimited agents on every plan. Published per-message rates for Indian numbers, for example ₹0.958 for marketing and ₹0.150 for utility on Growth. AI Agents add-on ₹2,499 a month with 100 AI messages, ₹0.50 each after (another line on the page said ₹3,000).
Where it is strong:
- Unlimited agents remove the per-user cost entirely
- Per-message rates are published, so bills are easy to forecast
- Instagram-only plan for brands that start there
Where it falls short:
- Growth's chatbot is linear; branching and API calls need Advanced
- AI answering is an add-on rather than included
- Priced for India; no USD prices on the page
Best for: WhatsApp teams with many agents and simple automation. See WATI vs Interakt for the head-to-head.
2. AiSensy
AiSensy is a WhatsApp marketing platform built around broadcasts, click-to-WhatsApp ads and campaign automation, with chatbot and AI agent builders sold as add-ons.
Pricing (3 November 2026 unless noted): The pricing page mentions a Free Forever plan and Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly billing but did not show tier prices in its text. Add-ons listed: drag-and-drop chatbot builder ₹2,500 a month (₹2,250 billed annually) for 5 chatbots; WhatsApp AI agent builder ₹1,350 a month (₹1,215 annually) with 1,000 AI messages. Listed India message rates: ₹1.09 marketing, ₹0.145 utility, authentication and service. Billing is prepaid.
Where it is strong:
- Strong broadcast and campaign tooling
- Clear AI agent add-on price with 1,000 messages included
- Free plan to start
Where it falls short:
- Chatbot builder and AI agent are both add-ons
- Core tier prices were not visible on the page we checked
- WhatsApp-focused
Best for: D2C brands whose WhatsApp use is mostly campaigns and broadcasts.
3. Respond.io
Respond.io is a multi-channel customer conversation platform: WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, email, calls and more in one inbox, with workflows and AI agents.
Pricing (3 November 2026 unless noted): Starter $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) with 5 users and 5,000 AI credits; Growth $199 ($159) with 10 users and AI agents; Advanced $349 ($279); Enterprise custom. Plans start from 1,000 monthly active contacts, with overage of $12 or $15 per 100 contacts on Growth and Advanced, and extra users from $12 to $24. A 7-day trial needs no card.
Where it is strong:
- Many channels in one inbox, including calls
- Workflows and AI agents on Growth and up
- USD pricing and a no-card trial
Where it falls short:
- Priced on monthly active contacts, which grows with audience
- More expensive entry point than WhatsApp-only tools
- Broadcasts excluded from the trial
Best for: Support and sales teams that run several messaging channels, not only WhatsApp.
4. BotPenguin
BotPenguin is a budget multi-channel chatbot builder with a free plan, LLM integrations and white-label options for agencies.
Pricing (3 November 2026 unless noted): Baby free forever with 1,000 messages and 1 chatbot; Little $29 a month with 3,000 messages and 5 chatbots; King $99 with 12,000 messages and unlimited chatbots; Emperor $990. Website, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Telegram on the free plan. Yearly billing charges 10 months for 12.
Where it is strong:
- Generous free plan with several channels
- Per-message pricing, so old contacts cost nothing
- LLM choice on King: GPT-5, Gemini, Claude, Llama, DeepSeek
Where it falls short:
- Less depth as a WhatsApp team inbox than WATI
- Message counting rules need checking for your use
- Higher channels (Slack, LINE) only on the $990 plan
Best for: Small businesses and agencies that want many channels for little money. See ManyChat vs BotPenguin.
5. ManyChat
ManyChat is the best-known Instagram and Messenger automation tool and also supports WhatsApp.
Pricing (3 November 2026 unless noted): Per contact. Our 6 August 2026 check found Essential around $14 a month for 250 contacts, Pro around $29 for 2,500, Business around $69 for 7,500 and Advanced around $139 for 25,000. Its pricing page blocked our check on 3 November 2026, so confirm current figures there.
Where it is strong:
- Instagram comment and DM automation
- Huge template and tutorial ecosystem
- Simple pricing for small audiences
Where it falls short:
- Per-contact billing grows with your whole audience
- WhatsApp inbox lighter than WATI's
- AI packaging has been reported differently since its March 2026 pricing change
Best for: Brands whose real channel is Instagram. See ManyChat vs WATI.
6. Landbot
Landbot is a hosted conversational-form and lead-capture builder with AI chats, human takeover and WhatsApp packages.
Pricing (3 November 2026 unless noted): Free with 100 chats; Starter €40 a month (€32 billed yearly) with 500 chats; Professional €100 (€80) with 2,500 chats; WhatsApp as a +€100 add-on or Professional WA at €160 with a number included. Extra chats €0.05, extra AI chats €0.10.
Where it is strong:
- Good visual builder for lead capture
- Human takeover on every plan
- AI chats included by plan
Where it falls short:
- WhatsApp is expensive relative to WhatsApp-first tools
- Per-chat pricing adds up at volume
- Priced in euros
Best for: Marketing teams qualifying leads on the website and WhatsApp. See Landbot alternatives.
7. Conferbot
Conferbot is our product, so treat this entry with the scepticism a vendor listing deserves. It is a no-code chatbot builder that runs one bot across a website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, Discord, Slack and Microsoft Teams, with AI answers trained on your content through the AI knowledge base and hand-off to a person in live chat.
Pricing (3 November 2026 unless noted): Free with 600 conversations a month and 2 chatbots; Starter $19, Pro $39 and Business $59 a month for 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 conversations (pricing). Every channel is on every plan. Webhooks and the API need Starter; native integrations such as HubSpot, Google Sheets and Stripe need Pro.
Where it is strong:
- Per-conversation pricing, no per-contact or per-channel fees
- Structured flows and AI answers in the same bot
- Live chat hand-off and a shared inbox on every plan, including Free
- 21 AI providers to choose from (see AI models)
- Connects to the official WhatsApp Business API with your own Meta account, so Meta bills message fees to you directly
Where it falls short:
- Not a broadcast-first marketing tool like WATI or AiSensy
- Team seats are 2, 3, 5 and 15 by plan, so huge agent teams cost less on Interakt
- Instagram is still marked coming soon in the dashboard
Best for: Businesses that want the same AI and flows on WhatsApp and their website. See WhatsApp chatbot.
Which WATI alternative fits your situation
| If your main problem with WATI is | Look at | Because |
|---|---|---|
| Per-user fees as the team grows | Interakt | Unlimited agents on every plan |
| Broadcast and campaign volume | AiSensy | Campaign-first tooling and prepaid credits |
| You need more channels than WhatsApp | Respond.io or Conferbot | Multi-channel inbox or one multi-channel bot |
| AI answering metered by credits | Conferbot or Respond.io | AI included in plan price (Respond.io under fair use from Growth) |
| Instagram is the real channel | ManyChat | Instagram automation specialist |
| Tiny budget, several channels | BotPenguin | Free plan with 5 channels |
If WhatsApp is the only channel and broadcasts are central, the WhatsApp-first tools (Interakt, AiSensy) are the closest swap. If you are moving because WhatsApp is now one channel of several, the multi-channel options make more sense than another WhatsApp specialist.
Moving off WATI without losing your number
Because WATI uses the official WhatsApp Business API, your number and WhatsApp Business account are yours. The move looks like this:
- Export contacts, tags and any conversation history you need from WATI.
- List your active templates and their categories. Our template examples help if any need rewriting.
- Rebuild your flows in the new tool, simplifying as you go.
- Disconnect the number from WATI, then register it with the new provider. If it fails, see registration failed and the WhatsApp error codes.
- Check display name, quality rating and template status, then send test messages before switching traffic.
Do it outside peak hours: there is a short window when messages are not delivered. Our WhatsApp Business API setup guide covers the registration steps in detail.
Do not forget Meta's message fees
Every alternative above sits on top of Meta's WhatsApp pricing, which charges per message by category (marketing, utility, authentication, service) and by the recipient's country. Some vendors publish their per-message prices (Interakt and AiSensy did on their pages), others link a rate card. Since 1 October 2026 the service-window billing changed as well; see WhatsApp service message billing.
To compare totals, take last month's sends by category and multiply by each vendor's rate. The WhatsApp API cost calculator does the arithmetic, and the WhatsApp limits page lists the messaging tiers that cap how many customers you can reach a day.
Feature matrix: what each alternative includes
| WhatsApp inbox | Website bot | AI answering | Live chat hand-off | Seats | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| WATI | Core | Yes | Widget | AI credits by plan | Yes | 3 to 5, extra per user |
| Interakt | Core | Yes | Limited | Add-on | Yes | Unlimited |
| AiSensy | Core | Limited | Limited | Add-on, 1,000 AI messages | Yes | By plan |
| Respond.io | Yes | Yes | Widget | AI agents from Growth | Yes | 5 to 10, extra per user |
| BotPenguin | Yes | Yes | Yes | LLM on all plans | Inbox | 5 to 10 |
| ManyChat | Yes | Core | No | Paid tiers | Inbox | By plan |
| Conferbot | Yes | Coming soon | Yes | In plan price | All plans | 2, 3, 5, 15 |
Rows describe what each vendor's pricing and product pages list on 3 November 2026. Where a cell says only "Yes", the feature exists but its depth varies; test it with your own workflow.
Three teams, three different answers
A D2C brand sending weekly broadcasts to 20,000 opted-in customers
Broadcast tooling and per-message rates matter more than anything else here. AiSensy publishes ₹1.09 per marketing message to Indian numbers and Interakt ₹0.958 on Growth, so 80,000 marketing sends a month is roughly ₹87,000 against ₹77,000 in message fees alone, before subscriptions. WATI's Pro and Business plans include unlimited broadcasts at standard rates. Multi-channel bots are the wrong tool for this team.
A 10-agent support team answering WhatsApp all day
Seats dominate. On WATI Pro, 5 included users plus 5 extra at ₹1,299 adds ₹6,495 to the ₹5,799 plan. Interakt Advanced is ₹3,799 with unlimited agents. Respond.io Growth includes 10 users at $159 a month billed yearly. For this team, Interakt is usually cheapest and Respond.io is the multi-channel upgrade.
A clinic or services business on WhatsApp and its website, AI answering FAQs
The same questions arrive on both channels, so one bot trained once is the efficient setup. On Conferbot, 1,500 conversations a month across WhatsApp and the website fits the $19 Starter plan (2,000 conversations), with Meta billing WhatsApp message fees directly to your account and live chat hand-off included. WATI would need its widget plus AI credits; a WhatsApp-only tool would leave the website uncovered.
Good reasons to stay on WATI
Switching costs a rebuild and a number migration, so it is worth being sure. Stay if:
- Your team is 3 to 5 people and WATI's included users cover it.
- You use its HubSpot or Salesforce integration daily; rebuilding integrations is the slowest part of any move.
- Your AI usage fits inside the included Wati AI credits.
- Broadcasts are central and you already have approved templates and a strong quality rating.
If one of those is true and the others are not painful, renegotiating your plan or trimming automations may save more than a migration.
Questions to ask any WATI alternative
- What is the per-message price for marketing, utility, authentication and service messages in our top three countries?
- How many users or agents are included, and what does the next one cost?
- Is AI answering included, metered by credits, or an add-on? What happens at the limit?
- Can we migrate our number without losing templates, and do you help with the cut-over?
- Which of our integrations are native, and which need Zapier or custom work?
- What does the dashboard show when a message fails, and how do we see the Meta error code?
For the last point, our WhatsApp API error codes guide lists the codes you will most often see.
A one-week test plan before you switch
Feature lists do not tell you which tool will work for your customers. A short, structured test does. This takes about a week of light effort:
- Write down your 30 most common customer questions from last month, plus 5 the bot should refuse or hand over.
- Set up a free plan or trial on two or three shortlisted tools with the same content and the same channel.
- Run the 35 questions through each and score them: correct, partly correct, wrong, handed over.
- Send a test template in each category and check it arrives, how it is billed and where a failure shows up.
- Assign a conversation to a second agent and time how long the hand-over takes.
- Ask each vendor for last month's invoice for a customer of your size, including message fees.
Pick the tool that answers best on your own questions and whose bill you can predict. If two tie, pick the one your team found easier to change, because you will change it every week.
If AI answers are part of the test, our guides to training on a knowledge base and human hand-off explain what good looks like.
How we compared
Prices, allowances and plan features were read from each vendor's public pricing page on 3 November 2026, unless a different date is shown next to a figure. Where a page contradicted itself, we say so instead of picking a number. We did not run every tool in production for this article; it compares what vendors publish, plus how each pricing model behaves at realistic volumes. ManyChat's figures are from 6 August 2026 because its pricing page blocked our check. Prices change often, so confirm on the vendor's page before you buy. Corrections are welcome via contact. Disclosure: Conferbot is our product; its entry says so.
If you would rather not run the plumbing yourself
If what you want from a WATI alternative is one AI bot on WhatsApp and your website, with live chat hand-off and per-conversation pricing, that is the gap Conferbot is built for. See WhatsApp chatbot and how to build a free WhatsApp chatbot.
Start free with Conferbot - the free plan includes 600 conversations a month and needs no credit card, so you can have the same flow running on a second channel this afternoon.
Whichever tool you pick, run it against a real week of your own conversations before you commit. Pricing pages describe the model; only your traffic tells you the bill. The chatbot cost calculator and the vendor evaluation questions help structure that test.
