Chatbase vs SiteGPT (2026)

Both train an AI agent on your website and documents. Chatbase sells message credits with 40 MB of training content on every self-serve plan and puts help-desk integrations from Basic ($150). SiteGPT sells messages and page limits, starts cheaper on annual billing ($39) and charges add-ons for branding removal, WhatsApp and extra messages. Small sites on a budget lean SiteGPT; teams that need Zendesk, HubSpot or Salesforce hand-off lean Chatbase.

Prices and product status verified 3 November 2026. We build a competing product (Conferbot) - where it appears below, it is labeled.

Chatbase and SiteGPT are two of the best-known "train a chatbot on your website" products. You point them at a site or upload documents, they build a knowledge base, and an AI agent answers visitors from it. On the surface they are almost identical, which is why the comparison comes down to the meters: what counts as a message, how much content you can train on, and which integrations each plan unlocks.

All figures below are from each vendor's pricing page on the date shown at the top. Both pages had small inconsistencies, which we note where they matter.

What each one actually meters

Chatbase meters message credits and training size. Hobby includes 700 message credits a month, Basic 4,000 and Business 15,000, each with test credits on top (200, 500 and 1,000). Every self-serve plan includes 40 MB of training content and one AI agent. Extra credits auto-recharge at $40 per 1,000 and do not expire; extra agents are $25 a month each; extra storage is $25 per 10 MB a month.

SiteGPT meters messages and pages. Starter includes 4,000 messages on GPT-4.1-mini (or 400 on GPT-4.1), Growth 10,000 (or 1,000) and Scale 40,000 (or 4,000). Training is limited by pages: 1,000, 10,000 and 50,000. Note the model split: choosing the stronger model cuts the message allowance to a tenth.

The practical difference: Chatbase's limit you hit first is usually credits; SiteGPT's is usually pages on a big site, or messages if you pick the stronger model.

The bill at three sizes

Yearly-billed prices from both pages, per month. Add-ons only where the scenario needs them.

Small business site, 500 AI answers a month, branding removed

Chatbase Hobby $32 + $99 branding removal = $131. SiteGPT Starter $39 + $39 branding removal = $78. SiteGPT is cheaper by a wide margin at this size.

Growing SaaS docs site, 3,500 answers a month, HubSpot hand-off

Chatbase Basic $120 includes 4,000 credits and HubSpot among its advanced integrations. SiteGPT Growth $79 covers 10,000 messages on the mini model and lists integrations such as Slack, Messenger and Crisp; HubSpot is not in its Growth list on the pricing page, so check before assuming. The cheaper option depends on whether that specific integration exists.

Busy support deployment, 12,000 answers a month, Zendesk

Chatbase Business $400 includes 15,000 credits and Zendesk. SiteGPT Scale $259 includes 40,000 messages on the mini model and lists Zendesk and webhooks. SiteGPT is cheaper on paper; Chatbase's Business adds advanced analytics and tickets as a training source.

Integrations and channels by tier

Chatbase lists basic integrations on Hobby (Shopify, Slack, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Calendly, WordPress), then a long list of advanced ones from Basic: Stripe, Zendesk and Zendesk Messaging, Salesforce, Intercom, HubSpot, Zoho Desk, Freshdesk, Freshchat, Help Scout, Gorgias, Odoo, Sunshine, Zapier and Twilio, plus its own help-desk inbox, voice, API access, telephony and outbound campaigns.

SiteGPT lists no integrations on Starter, then Google Chat, Messenger, Slack, Crisp, Freshdesk Messaging, Zoho SalesIQ and more on Growth, with API access and an iOS app, and Zendesk, webhooks and a Zendesk AI agent on Scale. WhatsApp is an add-on at $59 a month per number ($39 billed yearly), and so is AI email support.

If WhatsApp is a requirement, Chatbase includes it from Hobby while SiteGPT charges per number.

Answer quality is about your content, not the vendor

Both products are retrieval systems on top of large language models. The quality of answers depends far more on the content you train them on than on which of the two you pick: missing pages produce "I don't know", contradictory pages produce wrong answers, and stale pages produce confident wrong answers. Before choosing, spend an hour on your sources: one canonical page per policy, prices in one place, and old pages removed.

Then test both with the same 30 real customer questions, including a few the bot should refuse. Our guides on training a chatbot on a knowledge base and fixing wrong answers go through the process.

Switching between them

Switching is easier than with flow-based builders because the main asset is your content, not a flow diagram. Re-crawl or re-upload the sources, re-create custom instructions and actions, swap the embed code and reconnect integrations. Keep the old bot live until the new one answers your test set at least as well.

Watch the training limits when moving: a site that fits SiteGPT's 10,000 pages may exceed Chatbase's 40 MB if it includes large PDFs, and the reverse can happen with a site of many short pages.

Where Conferbot fits (our product, labeled)

Conferbot also trains an AI agent on your website and files through its AI knowledge base, but it is a full chatbot builder rather than a single AI widget: you can mix AI answers with structured flows (forms, bookings, buttons), and hand off to a person in the built-in live chat inbox on every plan. One bot runs on the website and on WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, Teams and Messenger, with no per-channel add-on.

Pricing is per conversation: Free has 600 conversations a month, and paid plans are $19, $39 and $59 for 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000. Branding removal starts on Starter. Native integrations such as HubSpot and Google Sheets need Pro.

Questions to ask each vendor

For Chatbase

  • "How many credits does one answer use with the model we plan to run?"
  • "What happens at 40 MB: do we buy storage or trim sources?"

For SiteGPT

  • "Which integrations are on Growth versus Scale, exactly, for our stack?"
  • "Is the extra 5,000 messages add-on $39 or $59 a month?" (the pricing page showed both)
  • "Can we cancel within the 7-day trial without being charged?"

How this comparison was verified

Plans, allowances, add-ons and integration lists were read from chatbase.co/pricing and sitegpt.ai/pricing on 3 November 2026. SiteGPT's page listed two different prices for its extra-messages add-on and two different Enterprise limits; we quote the add-on as listed in its add-ons section and flag the conflict. We did not run either product in production for this comparison. Corrections are welcome via contact. Disclosure: Conferbot is our product, and its section is labeled.

Frequently asked questions

Is Chatbase or SiteGPT cheaper?

At small sizes SiteGPT is cheaper: Starter is $39 a month billed yearly with 4,000 messages, against Chatbase Hobby at $32 yearly with 700 message credits. Once you add branding removal ($39 at SiteGPT, $99 at Chatbase) the gap widens. Chatbase earns its price with help-desk integrations from Basic.

How much does Chatbase cost in 2026?

On 3 November 2026: Hobby $40 a month ($32 billed yearly) with 700 message credits, Basic $150 ($120) with 4,000, Business $500 ($400) with 15,000, and Enterprise custom. Every self-serve plan includes 40 MB of training content and one agent.

How much does SiteGPT cost in 2026?

On 3 November 2026: Starter $59 a month ($39 billed yearly) with 4,000 GPT-4.1-mini messages and 1,000 pages, Growth $129 ($79) with 10,000 messages and 10,000 pages, Scale $429 ($259) with 40,000 messages and 50,000 pages. A 7-day trial requires a card.

Which one trains on more content?

It depends on your content shape. SiteGPT limits pages (up to 50,000 on Scale); Chatbase limits size (40 MB on every self-serve plan, with storage add-ons at $25 per 10 MB). Sites with many short pages fit SiteGPT better; small sets of large PDFs may fit Chatbase better.

Does SiteGPT include WhatsApp?

Not in the plan price. WhatsApp is an add-on at $59 a month per number, or $39 billed yearly. Chatbase lists WhatsApp among its basic integrations from Hobby.

Can I remove the 'Powered by' badge?

On both, as a paid add-on: $99 a month at Chatbase, $39 a month billed yearly at SiteGPT.

Which is better for help-desk hand-off?

Chatbase. From its Basic plan it lists Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Freshchat, Help Scout, Gorgias, HubSpot and Salesforce, plus its own help-desk inbox. SiteGPT lists Crisp, Freshdesk Messaging and Zoho on Growth and Zendesk on Scale.

Does the model choice change SiteGPT's limits?

Yes. Each plan's message allowance is quoted for GPT-4.1-mini; choosing GPT-4.1 cuts it to a tenth, for example 4,000 messages on Starter becomes 400.

Are answers from Chatbase and SiteGPT accurate?

Both answer from your content, so accuracy depends mostly on your sources. Clean, current, non-contradictory pages produce good answers on either. Test both with the same set of real customer questions before choosing.

Can I move from Chatbase to SiteGPT?

Yes, fairly easily, because the main asset is your content. Re-crawl the site, re-create instructions and actions, replace the embed code and reconnect integrations. Check the target's training limit first.

What are the alternatives to Chatbase and SiteGPT?

Other website-trained AI agents include Botsonic, CustomGPT and Chatling. If you also need structured flows, live chat hand-off and messaging channels in one bot, builders such as Conferbot, Tidio and Botpress cover more ground.

Is there a per-conversation option with live chat included?

Conferbot bills per conversation with AI answers and live chat hand-off on every plan: Free includes 600 conversations a month, and paid plans are $19, $39 and $59 for 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000, with every channel included.
