Best AI Chatbot for Wix: 9 Options Compared, App Market and Custom Code

Wix sites can get an AI chatbot two ways: an app from the Wix App Market, or a tool you add with Wix's Custom Code setting. Wix's own option is Wix Smart Chat, which is free to install. Among App Market apps, Chatway and Ultimo Bots have the strongest ratings with a real number of reviews. Tidio, Chatbase, Elfsight and Conferbot install through Custom Code, which needs a published site on a connected domain. Pick by the job: free AI plus manual chat, live chat first, or one bot that also answers on WhatsApp, Messenger and Telegram.

The table shows what each option's listing or pricing page said on 3 November 2026. App Market ratings only exist for App Market apps; the others show how they install instead.

A 5.0 from 3 reviews tells you very little; a 5.0 from 375 tells you a lot. Prices are the vendors' own figures on the check date, and several bill AI usage on top of the plan, so read the cost section before comparing the last column.

This list uses only things you can check yourself:

• App Market data (average rating, number of reviews, free plan) comes from each app's Wix App Market page on 3 November 2026.
• Prices come from each vendor's own pricing page on the same date, because the App Market shows prices converted to the viewer's local currency.
• Features come from the listing text and the vendor's documentation.
• Conferbot is our product. Its entry describes our Wix setup exactly as our Wix app repository and plan limits define it, and it is listed first because this is our site.

We did not run our own scores for AI quality or page speed. Both depend on the content you train the bot on and on your Wix template, so a number from our test site would not predict yours. The test plan further down shows how to compare two or three options on your own site in an afternoon.

Yes. Wix's own option is Wix Smart Chat, made by Wix and free to install. Its listing says it combines AI chat and manual chat in one place, with availability modes for AI around the clock, manual chat from your Wix Inbox, scheduled hours or inactive. It also collects leads with contact forms and shows chat analytics. Wix describes it as the replacement for the older Wix Chat.

On the check date it carried 2.7 stars from 161 reviews, which is low for a first-party app. Read the newest reviews before relying on it, and test it with your own questions. Smart Chat makes sense when you want a zero-setup option inside the Wix dashboard and your questions are simple. Look further when you need:

• structured flows, such as booking, a quote request or a product finder, rather than free chat,
• tighter control over the AI's sources and fallback answers,
• the same bot on WhatsApp, Messenger or Telegram, with one inbox for all channels,
• handover rules that route chats to the right person.

Path 1: an app from the Wix App Market

In your dashboard, open Apps, then App Market, search for the app and click Add to Site. Apps such as Chatway and Ultimo Bots then appear in your dashboard and can read Wix data their permissions allow, for example Wix Stores products or Wix Bookings services in Ultimo Bots' case. App Market apps are the easiest route and give you reviews to judge them by.

Path 2: Custom Code

For tools that are not in the App Market, Wix's Custom Code setting adds a snippet to every page. Wix's help center states the requirement plainly: the site must be published and have a connected domain. Connecting a domain needs a Premium plan, so on a free wixsite.com address the chat will not appear.

1. In the dashboard, go to Settings, then Custom Code, and click Add Custom Code.
2. Paste the snippet from the chatbot tool. For Conferbot, it comes from Share, then Embed into your website, in the Conferbot dashboard.
3. Name it, choose All pages (or specific pages), and place it in Body - end.
4. Click Apply, publish the site, and open it in a private window to check.

Strengths: No third-party account, lives inside the Wix dashboard, AI and manual chat in one app.

Trade-offs: Low rating for a first-party app; Wix-only, no WhatsApp or Telegram bot from the same tool.

Best for: Wix sites that want a quick, free start and have simple questions.

3. Chatway

Live chat with an AI support agent, a help center and a unified inbox for website chat, WhatsApp Business, email, Messenger and Instagram DMs.

• 5.0 stars from 375 reviews, the strongest rating with a large review base here.
• Free plan: 1 seat, 30 days of history, 50 conversations a month.
• Business plan $39/month or $31/month billed yearly; the AI agent costs $0.50 per resolved conversation.

Strengths: Top-rated on Wix, generous free plan, mobile apps, a social inbox.

Trade-offs: AI is usage-priced on top of the plan; live chat is the core, AI the add-on.

Best for: Small teams that answer chats themselves and want AI for overflow.

4. Ultimo Bots

An AI agent and live chat that learns your site, products, files and FAQs and, according to its listing, works with Wix business apps: it finds products and checks stock in Wix Stores, shows Bookings services and open times, and saves leads to your contacts.

• 4.8 stars from 40 reviews; marked Verified by Wix.
• Free plan on the listing with 20 AI credits (one-time) and human handover.
• Smart $29/month (500 AI credits), Boost $59 (2,000), Ultimo $249 (10,000).

Strengths: Reads Wix data, takes actions for bookings and stores, AI-suggested replies and translation for live chat.

Trade-offs: Credit-based pricing; the free plan is a trial-sized allowance, not an ongoing tier.

Best for: Wix Stores and Wix Bookings sites that want the bot to act on Wix data.

5. Tidio

Live chat, a helpdesk and the Lyro AI agent. Tidio's app is no longer in the Wix App Market (its listing returned not found on the check date), so it installs through Custom Code.

• Free plan available.

• Large user base across platforms.

Strengths: Mature product, helpdesk features, strong mobile app.

Trade-offs: Custom Code means no Wix data access and a Premium plan with a connected domain; AI is billed separately.

Best for: Sites that already use Tidio elsewhere or want a well-known all-rounder.

Installing it on this platform: Custom Code, Body - end, all pages.

6. Elfsight AI Chatbot

A widget from Elfsight's widget library that trains on your website and answers visitors.

• Lists Wix among supported builders.

Strengths: Low price, quick setup, part of a larger widget library many Wix sites already use.

Trade-offs: View and message caps; a widget rather than a support platform, with no shared inbox for live chat.

Best for: Small brochure sites that want simple AI answers for a few dollars.

Strengths: Strong content-trained answers, easy to train from URLs and files.

Trade-offs: No free tier, credit-based billing, Custom Code install.

Best for: Sites whose questions are mostly about policies and information already on the site.

8. tawk.to

Free human live chat. There is a third-party connector in the App Market (by Dumastar, 1.0 from a single review), or you can paste tawk.to's widget code through Custom Code.

• Free.
• Removing branding is $29/month.
• AI features are paid add-ons.

Strengths: Free live chat with unlimited agents.

Trade-offs: Built for humans answering, not an AI-first bot; the App Market connector is not tawk.to's own app.

Best for: Sites with people available to answer and no budget.

Installing it on this platform: Custom Code with tawk.to's widget code.

9. Chatonbo

An App Market AI agent focused on capturing leads and tracking orders, answering in 50+ languages according to its listing.

• 5.0 stars from 3 reviews.
• Free plan available.
• Lead capture saves name, email and phone with the full chat.

Strengths: Lead-first design and order tracking for stores.

Trade-offs: Very few reviews, so the rating is not yet meaningful.

Best for: Lead-generation sites willing to try a newer app.

Installing it on this platform: App Market, Add to Site.

Also seen: the App Market lists many small AI chat apps, for example AI Chat Agent by Purple, which uses your own OpenAI, Claude, Grok or Gemini key. Most have only a handful of reviews; treat them as experiments.

Wix powers many kinds of sites, and the first flows differ by type:

Whatever you pick, decide what the bot must not answer. Prices that change, medical or legal advice, and anything about a specific order without access to order data should go to a person. The most useful question to ask of any Wix chatbot is what it can read. There are three levels, and they matter more than the AI model behind the bot:

Map your top ten questions onto these levels. If most are about your services, opening hours and policies, a content-trained bot is enough. If visitors constantly ask whether an item is in stock or which slots are free, a tool that reads Wix Stores or Bookings saves real work. Two Wix-specific details catch people out:

• Cookie consent. Wix's Custom Code help tells you to categorize your custom code for your cookie banner. A chat widget usually belongs in a functional category, which means visitors who decline that category may not see the chat. Test with the banner accepted and declined, and say in your privacy policy which chat tool you use and what it stores.
• Moving from Wix Chat. Wix describes Smart Chat as the replacement for the old Wix Chat. If your site still runs Wix Chat and you add a third-party chatbot, remove or switch off the old chat first so visitors do not see two launchers.

Beyond the plan price, three things decide the bill:

• Your Wix plan. Anything installed through Custom Code needs a published site on a connected domain, which means a Premium plan. App Market apps run on the plan you already have.
• How AI is counted. Chatway charges per resolved conversation, Ultimo Bots and Chatbase use credits, Elfsight caps messages and views, and Conferbot counts conversations within a monthly allowance.
• Seats. Live-chat-first tools often price by agent. Check how many people can answer on each plan.

Estimate your monthly volume first. A site with 300 chats a month fits several free plans; one with 3,000 does not. The chatbot cost calculator models this, and the free website chatbot comparison lists what each free plan really includes.

1. Use a duplicate site or a hidden test page so visitors are not affected.
2. Give each tool the same content: your services or product pages, FAQ and policies.
3. Ask ten real questions from your inbox, including two the bot should hand to a person.
4. Check the handover and where the conversation lands for your team.
5. Check mobile: the launcher must not cover your booking or buy button.
6. Check speed with PageSpeed Insights with the chat on and off.

1. How does it install? App Market apps work on any plan; Custom Code needs a published site on a connected domain.
2. What can it read? Only your pages, or Wix Stores and Bookings too?
3. How is AI billed? Per resolved conversation, per credit, per message, or within a conversation allowance?
4. Who answers when the AI cannot? Is there live chat, and does the person see the whole conversation?
5. Where do conversations live? The Wix Inbox, the vendor's inbox, or a shared inbox for all your channels?
6. Does it work on the channels your customers use? Website only, or WhatsApp, Messenger and Telegram as well?
7. How many reviews sit behind the rating, and what do the newest ones say?
8. Can you leave easily? Can you export conversations and contacts, and is removal one click or a snippet hunt?

• Testing on the free wixsite.com address. Custom Code does not run there. Test on the published Premium site with your domain.
• Placing the code in the head of one page. Chat widgets belong in Body - end on all pages unless the tool says otherwise.
• Running two chats. Wix Smart Chat plus a second tool gives visitors two bubbles. Remove one.
• Trusting a 5.0 from three reviews. Read the newest reviews and check how long the app has been listed.
